The XP-Double-D Beamline at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) at Brookhaven National Laboratory is a damping wiggler beamline facility dedicated to high pressure research in the Earth and Materials Sciences primarily using the multi-anvil apparatus. This beamline makes use of monochromatic X-rays for diffraction (angular dispersive) and radiographic imaging of samples in situ at high pressures and temperatures, and is equipped with a 1100-ton hydraulic press with Deformation-DIA, T-25 (Kawai-style multi-anvil), and Deformation-T-25 pressure modules, a Perkin-Elmer area detector for X-ray diffraction data collection, and a Prosilica CCD camera for sample imaging. This facility is focused primarily on the development of new experimental high pressure research techniques and should be open to collaboration with COMPRES users in late 2016.
